Book of the Week: The Baron of Coyote River

The Baron of Coyote River by L. Ron Hubbard

Book Synopsis:
Lance Gordon killed his father's murderer in a fair fight, but now he's got a price on his head and has been running from the law ever since.
Cornered by men of the US Cavalry in Santos, Lance gets rescued by a mystery man who convinces him to join forces and go after a notorious cattle rustler up the infamous Coyote River.
Even together the pair stands barely a chance of bringing the gang of thieves to account, much less dealing with the soldiers still hot on their trail.

Review:
This week's Book of the Week is The Baron of Coyote River. My husband and son love westerns, and have been looking forward to this story for a while. I never was a big western story fan, until the Golden Age Stories. Now, I too am a huge fan. This western is one amazingly good story that is not only a good guy, bad guy tale, but also keeps you on your toes through to the end.

Lance Gordon is a good man, but not all see him that way. Though he fairly wins a fight with the man who killed his father, the man ends up dead in the end. Typically this would be no big deal, but the man Lance killed is a deputy Marshall. This leads to a full on manhunt for Lance, as there has been a high price put out for his head.

Forced to go on the run, Lance ends up at a territory in Arizona called Santos. As Lance is cornered by the US Cavalry, a local man named Tyler helps him escape. He gives Lance a horse and tells him to go to Coyote River. See, there is a Baron there that has been stealing cattle, and Tyler knows Lance is the man to help get them back. The Baron is so notorious, the law won't even go near him.

This is when the story gets so exciting, not only does Lance have the Cavalry on his tail, he also wants to help the man who helped him. But with the danger all around, it won't be easy.

Also include with this story, is the western "Reign of the Gila Monster". This is a great story of a town that is taken over by a tough man, and the fight to get it back. Though it seems like a typical western, it is far from it. There is light humorous side to it, which made it enjoyable to all of us.
